Nicknames: Nicknames are basically shortened form of lengthy names, used especially to address the person in an informal way or ease of use.

Many a times transcriber comes across nicknames used in the conference call some are easy to relate to the original name of the individual, as in “Ed” for “Edward” or “Rob” for “Robert,” but a few times it’s difficult as in “Skippy” for “Mr. XYZ”

Having an understanding of most commonly used nicknames is useful as it helps when a question is directed towards a particular person and the questioner uses a nickname to address that person. A transcriber would find it easy to identify and relate to what is being said by that person if he knows the role that particular nicknamed person plays.

Nicknames can be checked for from previous transcripts, mind it they have to be cross checked with the affiliate company website of that particular individual, or the company website.
